Pauseur Privacy Policy
Version: 1.1 Effective Date: February 27, 2026 Last Updated: February 28, 2026
1. Introduction
Welcome to Pauseur ("the App"). Pauseur is developed and operated by Qichao Li, an independent developer ("Developer," "we," "us," or "our").
Pauseur is a mindfulness-based tool that helps you reduce compulsive app usage through guided breathing exercises. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your information.
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully before using the App. By downloading, installing, or using Pauseur, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
This Privacy Policy applies to all use of Pauseur downloaded through the Apple App Store.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Local Data (Stored on Your Device Only)
The following data is stored entirely on your device and is never transmitted to any server:
| Data Type | Description | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| Interception records | Timestamp, target app, whether you resisted, opening purpose | Until you manually clear data or uninstall the App |
| Breathing records | Start/end time, duration, HealthKit sync status | Until you manually clear data or uninstall the App |
| User settings | Cooldown duration, animation preference, onboarding status | Until you uninstall the App |
| Target app list | Preset and custom target apps | Until you uninstall the App |
| Diagnostic logs | App runtime logs for troubleshooting | Auto-deleted after 7 days; max 1 MB per file, up to 5 files |
All local data is stored within the iOS app sandbox, protected by iOS Data Protection encryption. Diagnostic logs are processed locally and do not contain personally identifiable information. When you choose to export logs via the in-app feedback feature, they are transmitted securely and used solely for debugging purposes.
Note: Certain attributes from these records (such as target app name, interception result, breathing duration, opening purpose, and setting changes) are reported to our analytics service as product interaction events (see Section 2.2). These events do not contain personally identifiable information and cannot reconstruct the complete records stored on your device.
2.2 Analytics Data
To improve the product experience, Pauseur collects the following analytics data and transmits it to a third-party analytics service:
| Data Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Installation identifier | A locally generated random UUID, created on first launch and persisted in UserDefaults. Used to correlate analytics data across systems. This identifier is stored locally in its original form (non-anonymous), but is hashed before transmission to TelemetryDeck (see below). When synced to RevenueCat, the original UUID is used as a subscriber attribute |
| Basic device information | Device model (e.g., iPhone 16), OS version (e.g., iOS 26.0), app version, build number, language setting |
| Product interaction events | Feature usage events (e.g., breathing completed, settings changed, page views). No personal content is included |
Analytics Service: TelemetryDeck
Pauseur uses TelemetryDeck for product analytics. TelemetryDeck is a privacy-focused analytics provider based in Germany, operated by TelemetryDeck GmbH.
- Data storage location: European Union (Amsterdam, Netherlands), hosted on Microsoft Azure
- IP address handling: TelemetryDeck does not store IP addresses in its database. IP addresses may be transiently processed for network communication but are not retained or logged
- Open-source SDK: The TelemetryDeck Swift SDK is open source, allowing independent verification of what data is transmitted
- User identification: The installation identifier is hashed before transmission using a daily-rotating salt. TelemetryDeck receives only the hashed value and cannot reverse it to identify individual users or devices
- No cross-app tracking: TelemetryDeck does not use advertising identifiers, fingerprinting, or any cross-app tracking technique
For more information, see the TelemetryDeck Privacy Policy.
About the Installation Identifier:
- The installation identifier is a randomly generated UUID that cannot identify you on its own. It is unique to the Pauseur app and cannot be used to track you across other developers' apps
- It is included in each analytics event to correlate data from different systems to the same app installation
- Uninstalling Pauseur deletes this identifier; reinstalling generates a new one
- The "Clear Data" function within the App does not delete this identifier (to maintain analytics continuity)
2.3 Purchase Information
If you subscribe to Pauseur Pro, your purchase is processed through Apple In-App Purchase (IAP) and managed by the third-party service RevenueCat.
- RevenueCat receives purchase history provided by Apple (product ID, transaction time, subscription status, etc.)
- We do not directly access your Apple ID, payment method, or banking information
- Your installation identifier is synced to RevenueCat as a subscriber attribute for analytics correlation
RevenueCat is based in the United States. For more information, see the RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
2.4 Health Data
Pauseur supports syncing breathing exercise duration to the Apple Health app. This feature is entirely optional and requires your explicit authorization:
- Data written: Mindful minutes (HKCategoryType.mindfulSession), including the start and end times of each breathing exercise
- We do not read any health data from HealthKit
- Health data is end-to-end encrypted by Apple's HealthKit framework; we cannot access it
- You can disable syncing at any time in Pauseur's settings. Previously synced data will not be deleted (manage it in the Apple Health app)
- Pauseur will not access HealthKit without your authorization
- Health data is never transmitted to any third-party server, and is never used for advertising, marketing, or sold to data brokers, in compliance with Apple's HealthKit usage policies
3. Information We Do NOT Collect
For clarity, Pauseur does not collect, store, or transmit:
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA), vendor identifiers (IDFV), unique device identifiers (UDID), or MAC addresses
- IP addresses (our analytics service does not store raw IP addresses)
- Your name, email address, phone number, or account credentials
- Geographic location data
- Contacts, call logs, or message content
- Photos, videos, or files
- Browsing history or web activity
- Keyboard input or screen recordings
- Biometric data (Face ID or fingerprint raw data)
- Usage data from other apps (we only record interception events for apps you have explicitly configured)
Pauseur does not use any advertising SDKs, user profiling services, or cross-app tracking technologies. We do not use the App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect solely for the following purposes:
| Purpose | Data Involved | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Core functionality | Local data | Power breathing interception, usage tracking, and other core features |
| Health data sync | Mindful minutes (written to HealthKit only) | Sync breathing duration to Apple Health (requires separate authorization) |
| Product analytics | Installation identifier, device info, interaction events | Understand feature usage, identify issues, and improve user experience |
| Subscription management | Purchase history, installation identifier | Verify and manage Pauseur Pro subscription status |
| Troubleshooting | Diagnostic logs (only when you choose to send them) | Diagnose and fix app issues |
We do not use your data for advertising, user profiling, automated decision-making, or any purpose beyond those listed above.
Legal Basis for Processing (for users in the EU/EEA)
Where the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, we rely on the following legal bases:
| Legal Basis | Data Processing Activity |
|---|---|
| Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) | Processing purchase and subscription data to provide Pauseur Pro services |
| Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) | Collecting anonymized analytics data (hashed identifiers, device info, interaction events) to improve product experience and fix issues |
| Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) | Writing mindful session data to HealthKit (requires your explicit opt-in authorization) |
We have conducted a balancing test to ensure our legitimate interests in product improvement do not override your fundamental rights and freedoms. Given that (1) the installation identifier is anonymized via hashing before transmission, (2) no sensitive data is involved, and (3) you retain the right to opt out by uninstalling the App, we have determined that our processing is proportionate.
You may withdraw your consent for HealthKit data processing at any time via Settings → Health Sync. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out prior to withdrawal.
